Minister of Education: Accelerating School Reform and Institutional Capacity Building a Priority in Pandemic Context

PHNOM PENH: The Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Hang Chuon Naron, has said that in the context of Covid-19, accelerating school reform and institutional capacity building is a priority to change education in a timely manner. He made this remark online for International Education Day 2022, which was held uner the theme of “Changing Course, Transforming Education” on Monday.

The Minister of Education shared some strategic plans that Cambodia has set out to strengthen the National Education system, such as striving to reduce the impact of Covid-19 on the education system by shifting to a holistic approach.

Minister Hang Chuon Naron also stated that in order to respond to Covid-19, it is necessary to reform the education system by using distance learning technology, cultural exchange in schools, adopting new teaching methods, and developing skills relevant for the 21st century to reform schools and study materials, and promote private partners.

The Minister added that the recent results of the 2021 high school diploma exam show Cambodia's efforts to strengthen and develop the education sector.

The 2022 International Education Day was organized by the Office of International Cooperation (ICO) of the Department of Education of the Philippines, and was attended by education ministers from a number of countries, as well as other stakeholders in the field of education.
